Traditional

Drop in and pick up an ecard to access our online services - no ID needed.
The card also allows access to the Library's public computers.
To request an eCard, please visit any of our locations.
School
Level up your studying game and use your Chesapeake Public School student ID to access online services and borrow items too.

- Who can get a card?

Anyone can get a card.
- Do I need an ID to apply?

Yes, a valid government-issued ID is required to borrow physical items. This can include a driver's license, passport or Department of Defense card. (Student cards are assigned through the school.) No ID? Ask staff what other options are available.
- When will I get my card?

You can pick up your new card at the Library location when you visit.
- How do I update my information?

Yes, your card will expire. This helps us keep your records up to date. To renew your card call 757-382-8300 or visit your local library.
- Are there any fees?

Library cards are free. In order to continue sharing items with the community, a fee is charged for lost or damaged items. Learn more about it at the page for Policy 1002 - Charges for Materials.
- How long may I borrow an item?

Most items are due three weeks after checkout. If you'd like to keep an item longer, you may be able to renew twice.
- How do I renew an item?

Renew items through "My Account." If you need help, please call 757-382-8300 or visit your local library. Some items from special collections are not eligible for renewals: Interlibrary Loan, Library of Things.
Renewals are not available for items on hold for another user.

Look through our catalog to place an item on hold. Request to add an item to our collection from My Account. Need help? Please call 757-382-8300 or visit your local library.
- What do I do if I lose my card?

Access "My Account" to deactivate your card. Review your account. If you need help please call 757-382-8300 or visit your local library.
- What if I forget my PIN?

Your PIN may be reset from the My Account page.
- Where do I pay fo my fines/fees?

Chesapeake Public Library is now fine-free. Fees are only charged for lost or damaged items. Pay online anytime using SmartPay.
